Our trip to Kodachrome Basin State Park, Utah - 2006...

We decided to take a drive from where we were staying at Bryce Canyon to visit Kodachrome Basin State Park. We'd heard and read some good things about this place... |
| Like many of the places we visited in southern Utah this place has rocks springing from the ground... |

Some of these rocks seemed sort of suggestive of something... |
| Looking at it from a different angle didn't seem to help any... |

Blooming flowers added a lot to our enjoyment of this park... |
| But our attention kept returning to the towering rocks... |

There's a paved interpretive trail that is laid around a section of this park. This Yucca plant was blooming alongside the trail... |
| Here's a closer look at the Yucca flower.... |

I seemed to find an interesting dead tree where ever we visited. Kodachrome Basin was no different... |
| Here's the path snaking around a large sandstone rock and some flowering Yucaa plants. The sky is startlingly blue... |

It's difficult to capture the colors, textures and depth that the eye can see in the rock.... |
| Green pines, terracotta colored rock and deep blue sky. Everywhere we turned..." |

I wonder how long it'll be before this one falls over.... |
| And what, exactly, does that remind me of, I wonder? |

Life is certainly tenacious and this tree is hanging on for all it's worth.... |
| This one is called "Chimney Rock". Seems to be a lot of chimney rocks around these parts. Our toad is in front and my lovely wife is in the shade of the rock to the right.... |

And, guess what? More stunning rocks.... |
| There is a trail back in behind here to a formation called "Shakespeare Arch". We had hoped to hike back and look but it was just too hot at the time of day we were in the park. Oh, well. Just another reason to return... |

There was still plenty to see and do anyway.... |
| It's a bit hard to see but if you enlarge this picture and look closely you'll see the sign that calls this rock a "bump". Utah folk have such a sense of humor.. |

We left the park and headed back to Bryce Canyon and the RV. On the way I took this photo which turned out to be one of my favorites from our trip. I can't explain why but it seems to capture Utah in some small way for me. If you have a moment you may want to enlarge it and have a look... |
| As we neared Bryce Canyon we had to stop and admire some more Hoodoos... |

Hoodoos are simply remarkable and you can see more of them on our Bryce Canyon page here |
